I went to Elk Neck today to wring out my 1942 Swiss K31 with the thought of using it in the CMP matches in the Foreign Service Rifle category.

In addition, I also took my 1941 Lee-Enfield No. 1, Mk I. Both have good triggers but the real difference is in the sights and stocks. The SMLE has much better sights as the K31's are more for battle than competition. But the SMLE is hard to hold in the standing position with it's very straight stock. Both rifles shot within a point of each other in both the slow fire and rapid fire prone stages. And both suffered in the standing offhand position. More practice is needed to decide which one goes into competition.

I have had good success with 303 in number 4's with a load of 46-47 grains of H414/760 and a Sierra 174g match king. I have on my number 4's and like the Parker Hale rear sight kit. You may also.

I tried that and 748, Varget, and H4350. One of my number 4's has a short barrel(17 inch) that I also tried H335 and 3031 in. All of mine like H414 the best. Ball 2 was originally surplus 303 powder. It might work good but I never tried it.
