Well, to celebrate inauguration day today, I took the first step towards my goal of owning an AR-15:

I ordered a stripped lower receiver!! :pbjtime:

And believe it or not, I wasn't raped in the wallet, either. :D

I ordered an Essential Arms stripped lower, 7075, hard anodized to mil-spec. I also got the "Tough Coat" finish on it.

So, with the lower receiver, optional finish, 3% fee (tax?), shipping & handling, and FFL Xfer, my total came to... are you ready?

$143.

Not too shabby, right?

I've been calling places since yesterday. Prices range from $145 to $300 for a stripped lower. Most companies are out-of-stock, and are backordered for months. Some wouldn't even sell retail!

But EA has them in-stock at an awesome price, and will be shipping mine in about 2 weeks!

:pbjtime: :pbjtime: :pbjtime:

Next, I'll either get a kit from Del-ton or my semi-local AR-15 expert/shop, or order a complete upper from CMMG and build the lower myself. When funds allow, of course.

But I wanted to get the receiver (serial numbered "firearm") before Obama begins his reign and starts a gun ban.

Well.. In Northern PA, Montrose Sporting Goods (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... F5PYK&cd=1)

Last week had a NEW DPMS (maybe an m4gery) for $700.

Some of those hole-in-the-wall places have a good supply. Near Montrose, there's another private gun shop with all types of goodies.

Not many places will have anything left in stock. Most online stores are out of stock on AR-15 items. I would imagine the same is true for local stores. Unless, of course, you'd want to pay an insanely high premium.

Most online stores are on back order for months out....

For the best prices - you could go to Tanner's in Ft. Washington, Pa. It's a drive, but I don't think you'll find a better selection or prices.

Why settle for an AR-15 when you can get a Swiss made SIG556 ER! ;)

Droooooool.........

It shoots NATO 5.56x.45mm and will accept after market AR-15 mags. Mount an ACOG on this baby and you are good to go!

That just looks like a fat AR-15 to me....

What's the price tag on that thing?

I called Tanner's. They might have complete rifles (I didn't ask), but they do NOT have any AR-15 parts or accessories. Just magazines.

Patriot had ARs in the rack last week. You might want to check X-Ring as well.

I just called X-Ring. The ONLY AR they have left is a Bushmaster in 6.8 for $1149.

They have no AR's in 5.56/.223

I would say that demand has pretty much ran way OVER supply as of late. Go figure. Everyone's buying guns and ammo while it's still legal.
