Pulling the gun from the holster would likely be described as "drawing down on the officer" if you ask me. Of course, it's certainly possible that they guy was doing exactly what the officer commanded (put down the gun)(putting aside whether that is a lawful command).

Yes, there are many details missing from the news story.

I have spoken with the homeowner. He's doing OK (much better than a few days ago). He is getting a good lawyer to deal with what happened. And he thanks everyone for their support and concern.

Obviously, that is all that can be said about the issue, as he takes appropriate legal action.

I would not disarm myself in a situation like that. If they want to disarm me I'd put my hands on top of my head and let them but I'd never touch my sidearm while interacting with the police. Their mouth may say "drop the gun" but their brain may say "shoot" when you touch your firearm.
