dangerous everywhere
Dover, Del. —
A 15-year-old Dover resident is in jail after his arrest following a shooting Monday afternoon.
The incident took place at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Lucky Seven gas station/convenience store at 3150 N. DuPont Highway, said police spokesman Master Cpl. Bruce W. Harris.
The 26-year-old victim was shot several times and has been admitted to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital with life-threatening wounds.
The police investigation, which made use of video surveillance, showed the suspect and victim in a verbal confrontation at the gas pumps and the suspect apparently firing at the victim.
The victim fled into the store before collapsing on the floor. A store worker called 911, Harris said.
The suspect fled, but police were able to obtain a description of his car. Piecing this information together with prior information about someone driving the same car who had been in disputes with the victim, officers located the vehicle in the 1000 block of White Oak Road, Harris said.
The suspect was not found at that time, but turned himself in to Dover Police early in the morning of Aug. 10. State Police troopers then took him into custody.
The suspect, identified as Rasaun L. Harris, 15, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. The latter charged stemmed from a 2008 conviction for aggravated menacing.
Harris was committed to the William M. Stevenson Detention Center, Milford, in default of a $35,000 cash bail.
According to the police report, the victim, whose name was not released, suffered four gunshot wounds to the chest, including three in the heart. The victim also suffered the loss of his spleen and a medical diagnosis included the likelihood of brain death.

It is sobering to reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence. - Charles A. Beard
