I just recently ordered some. Not 55gr but 62gr.

500 rounds for $145.44. Even cheaper if you buy two boxes of 500.
And with shipping it was only $.31 a round for the 500 rounds.

Oops, now sold out. This stuff is still flying off the shelves. I checked the cheapest listed (Tula through J&G Sales and it too is sold out.) But others are still in stock. Like this one, Tula for $.273 a round.

Ever have any issues with the steel cased stuff in an AR? I've shot plenty in 9mm (no issues) but haven't tried it yet for rifles. I don't reload so this is looking better all the time.

From all that I've read steel ammo isn't much of a problem, except maybe Tula. (see the article I posted) Biggest is that it'll wear out the chamber slightly faster then brass ammo. So instead of ~10000 rounds between rebarreling you might need to change the barrel after 7500 rounds. Also the brass/steel coated bullets wear out the barrel faster. The extractor might need replacing more often too.

Here's a great article where they shot the guns to this point.

Fight for your life with it and describe to me how a 55gr is worse than a 62gr. Competition shooting is the bane of the existence of combat mindsets.

Go train harder.. shoot 1500 rounds under the watchful eye of a COMBAT instructor and not an NRA instructor and then set that clay pigeon back to 440 yards and hit it with irons on the first shot every time, regardless of your ammo.
Got something against NRA Instructors?
Not at all my friend. They teach very well. Just not as in depth as may be required. I personally like the combat mindset of self defense, NRA teaches the "PC" mindset. Better for competition shooting... not so good for "ah holy ******* ****" shooting. Of course there are exceptions ;). I'd trust the instruction of any instructor from DELOC, and I'd be a good student. But for now I'm saving up for Haley adaptive carbine, and tactical response fighting rifle.

Also from my knowledge steel ammo is no problem unless if you get your barrel hot enough to be too hot to touch and then the casing will get stuck inside of the gun is a round is left chambered with a steel cased round. That's the only performance issue I have personally seen. For any firearm but ar15s I really do recommend Wolf where you can use it. It's actually quality ammo.

Jim Cirillo was an NYPD Stake Out Squad member who killed almost a dozen criminals in twenty some gunfights using both handguns and long guns. He was an fierce competitor and has credited his survival in a large part to his competition experience.

Myopicvisionary knows his stuff, so I'd pay attention to him. In fact, he's one of the very few people I've met that I would have no hesitation going through the door with.
